Peacock has announced five new cast additions to its upcoming comedy DIG, with Noma Dumezweni, Jason Mantzoukas, and Brennan Lee Mulligan recurring, and Max Greenfield and Dan Bucatinsky guest starring. All 10 episodes premiere November 23.
DIG follows a team of archaeologists and their less-dedicated college student assistants working a dig site in Greece, where the discovery of a rare artifact pulls them into an international conspiracy. Dumezweni plays Evelyn, the mother of Clare, played by Antonia Thomas, described as a presence who looms large in her daughter’s life and weighs in on her decisions whether Clare wants her input or not. Mantzoukas plays Lambros, a local shop owner who occasionally loots artifacts from the dig itself, while Mulligan plays M.R., a wealthy dilettante weighing whether to fund the excavation. Greenfield plays Andrew, a high-society art dealer Elise, played by Amy Poehler, meets at a party, and Bucatinsky plays Fritz, a New York museum director with an interest in Clare’s career.
The series is based on Kate Myers’ 2023 novel Excavations, with Myers also serving as a co-executive producer. Amy Poehler and Mike Schur created and executive produce the series, marking their first collaboration since Parks and Recreation, with J.J. Philbin serving as co-showrunner and executive producer alongside them. The main cast includes Poehler, Hugh Laurie, Geraldine Viswanathan, Thomas, and Fina Strazza, with additional guest appearances from Kayvan Novak, Jon Pointing, and Bonita Friedericy. The series was filmed in Los Angeles and on location in Greece.
DIG is produced by Universal Television through Fremulon, Paper Kite, Duck Duck Films, Dunshire, 3 Arts, and Ocean Avenue, with Morgan Sackett, Dean Holland, Kate Arend, Jordan Grief, Dave Becky, David Miner, and Sharon Jackson also executive producing.
With a cast this stacked and a Poehler-Schur reunion already drawing attention on its own, the next thing to watch for is a trailer, which hasn’t been released yet, ahead of the show’s late November debut.
