‘Number One on the Call Sheet’ Trailer Drops for Apple TV+’s Two-Part Documentary on Black Hollywood

Apple TV+ has released the official trailer for Number One on the Call Sheet, a two-part documentary series celebrating the legacy and impact of Black actors in Hollywood. Executive produced by Angela Bassett and Halle Berry, the series will premiere on March 28.

The title Number One on the Call Sheet refers to the actor who holds the top spot on a film or television production’s daily call sheet—typically the lead performer. It signifies their prominence in the project and reflects their influence both on set and within the industry. This documentary explores what it takes for Black actors to reach that coveted position in Hollywood and the challenges they overcome along the way.

The documentary is divided into two films, each focusing on a different perspective. Number One on the Call Sheet: Black Leading Men in Hollywood, directed by Reginald Hudlin (Marshall, The Black Godfather), explores the experiences of Black male actors navigating Hollywood. Number One on the Call Sheet: Black Leading Women in Hollywood, directed by Shola Lynch (Chisholm ’72: Unbought & Unbossed, Free Angela and All Political Prisoners), examines the challenges, triumphs, and legacies of Black women in the industry.

The series features a powerhouse lineup of Hollywood’s most influential Black actors, including Idris Elba, Viola Davis, Halle Berry, Whoopi Goldberg, Tessa Thompson, Jamie Foxx, Denzel Washington, Angela Bassett, Kevin Hart, Morgan Freeman, Cynthia Erivo, Michael B. Jordan, and Will Smith. Through their stories, the documentary highlights the perseverance, talent, and contributions of Black performers who have redefined the industry.

Produced by Jamie Foxx, Kevin Hart, Datari Turner, and Dan Cogan, the films are backed by Hart’s HartBeat Productions and Cogan’s Story Syndicate. Executive producers include Angela Bassett, Halle Berry, Reginald Hudlin, and Bryan Smiley.

Number One on the Call Sheet premieres March 28 exclusively on Apple TV+.
