DiCaprio in a Bathrobe, Teyana Taylor With a Rifle—’One Battle After Another’ Trailer Is as Wild as It Sounds

Just a week after that blink-and-you’ll-miss-it teaser, Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another has officially entered the chat—and the full trailer does not disappoint. It’s chaotic, political, funny in that dark “what-is-happening” way, and yes, that jaw-dropping moment from the teaser still hits: a pregnant Teyana Taylor unloading a rifle with the calm of a woman who’s done this before. Some babies are born into money, others into mayhem.

Leonardo DiCaprio makes his Anderson debut as Bob Ferguson, a scrappy, unshaven revolutionary trying to rescue his daughter while going head-to-head with a white supremacist movement. The trailer kicks off with Bob in a beanie and bathrobe using a payphone—fumbling through codewords like he forgot his own revolution handbook. From there, it only gets wilder.

And let’s talk about the lineup. Alongside DiCaprio is a powerhouse ensemble that includes Teyana Taylor, Regina Hall, Wood Harris, Sean Penn, Alana Haim, Benicio del Toro, Shayna McHayle, and Chase Infiniti.

Taylor and  Hall play key members of Bob’s activist crew—and judging by the trailer, they’re not just along for the ride; they’re knee-deep in the resistance.

Inspired in part by Thomas Pynchon’s 1990 novel Vineland but set in the present day, the film is described as a trippy political satire drenched in rebellion, dysfunction, and generational resistance. Think counterculture vibes meets family drama—with a bullet or ten flying by.

The trailer also introduces Benicio del Toro as Bob’s eccentric mentor-slash-life coach who teaches him how to live fearlessly… and then promptly shoves him out of a speeding car. Because apparently, that’s how lessons stick in Anderson’s world.

Anderson is doing what he does best here—blending the absurd with the emotional, the political with the personal. But this time, he’s turning up the volume. One Battle After Another feels like it’s marching to the beat of its own drum, full of shootouts, showdowns, and sharp one-liners that hint at something much deeper beneath the chaos.

This marks Anderson’s first film since 2021’s Licorice Pizza, and it’s already shaping up to be his most ambitious yet. With a rumored budget hitting $140 million, it’s also his most expensive. The film was shot on 35mm VistaVision, with production based in California and additional scenes filmed in El Paso, Texas.

It also reunites Anderson with frequent collaborators, including producer Sara Murphy and the late Adam Somner, whose influence on Anderson’s past work is felt deeply in this project.

And don’t get it twisted—this isn’t just DiCaprio’s show. Teyana Taylor’s no-nonsense badassery, Regina Hall’s commanding energy, and Wood Harris’ grounded grit bring real weight to the revolution. They aren’t side characters—they are the moment.

The film will clock in at 2 hours and 30 minutes, and yes, it’s getting the full IMAX treatment when it drops in theaters on september 26.

And in a rare move, DiCaprio even debuted the trailer via YouTube, marking his return to the digital world after keeping a low social media profile for years—despite racking up more than 60 million followers across platforms.

If One Battle After Another is about fighting the system, preserving family, and embracing the chaos, then this trailer proves it’s ready to take no prisoners—both in message and in style.

Watch the trailer above, and brace yourself. The revolution’s coming, and it’s bringing Teyana Taylor, Regina Hall, Wood Harris, and a bathrobe-clad DiCaprio with it.
