Starz has released a teaser trailer and first-look images for the final season of P-Valley, confirming the hit strip club drama will conclude with its upcoming third season more than four years after Season 2 concluded on August 14, 2022. Season 3 premieres with two back-to-back episodes on December 4 and will consist of nine episodes, one fewer than the previous season’s order. The teaser features the new single “Homegrown” from Lil’ Murda.
Creator and showrunner Katori Hall announced the ending in a letter to fans. “There comes a moment when every stripper must hang up her heels,” Hall wrote. “Seventeen years into this dance, that time has come. I began writing this story back in 2009, from the kitchen table of my little apartment in Hell’s Kitchen, NYC.” Hall traced the project’s path from her research interviewing more than 40 dancers, to her play Pussy Valley, to the show’s 2020 television debut, calling it the rarest honor for a showrunner to end a series on her own terms. She thanked Starz for being the network that said yes to the story and closed by telling fans “this last dance” would go down as the show’s greatest season.
Kathryn Busby, president of Original Programming for Starz, credited the series for its boundary-pushing storytelling. “P-Valley has been embraced by critics and fans for the same reasons it has been brand-defining for Starz, because of its courageously bold, powerfully provocative and deeply inclusive storytelling,” Busby said. “We are endlessly grateful to Katori, and our immensely talented cast and crew, for building the world of Chucalissa and for crafting a cinematic final chapter that is emotionally layered, wildly entertaining and unapologetically boundary-pushing.”
Season 3 finds the newly opened Promised Land Casino flooding Chucalissa with money, as hometown heroes learn that more money brings more mayhem. Dreamers, schemers, ballers and shot-callers arrive from far and wide chasing a legendary payout. Back at The Pynk, Uncle Clifford (Nicco Annan) dreams of expanding her empire while Roulette (Gail Bean) breaks the club’s cardinal rule to build hers. As Lil’ Murda’s (J. Alphonse Nicholson) gang ties threaten to clip his wings, a caged Keyshawn (Shannon Thornton) fights to break free.
The returning cast includes Nicco Annan as Uncle Clifford, Brandee Evans as Mercedes, Shannon Thornton as Keyshawn, J. Alphonse Nicholson as Lil’ Murda, Harriett D. Foy as Mayor Woodbine, Dan J. Johnson as Corbin, Gail Bean as Roulette, Psalms Salazar as Whisper, Morocco Omari as Big L, Dominic DeVore as Duffy, Jordan M. Cox as Derrick, Thomas Q. Jones as Mane, Bertram Williams Jr. as Woddy, Mea Wilkerson as Haiku, Akilah Walker as Kiwi and Loretta Devine as Ernestine.
Based on Hall’s play Pussy Valley, P-Valley is set in the fictional Mississippi Delta town of Chucalissa, following the dancers, dreamers and strivers who pass through The Pynk strip club. The series faced multiple delays over the years, including the Covid-19 pandemic and the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, with Season 2 not renewed until October 2022, two months after that season’s finale aired. Season 2 averaged nearly 10.3 million viewers across linear, VOD and streaming platforms domestically, according to Starz.
Hall serves as showrunner and executive producer, with Jennifer Arnold, Debbie Hayn-Cass, Kemiyondo Coutinho and Ian Olympio serving as co-executive producers. Lionsgate Television produces the series for Starz.
P-Valley Season 3 premieres December 4 on Starz.
