‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 Sets August Return With Wild New Trailer, More DCU Crossovers, and a Doppelgänger Twist

Get ready, because John Cena’s trash-talking antihero is strapping on the helmet (and yes, the tighty-whities) once again. Season 2 of Peacemaker officially premieres Thursday, August 21 on Max, and the new trailer makes one thing clear: the world—and the DCU—is about to get even messier.

Returning alongside Cena are fan favorites Danielle Brooks (Leota Adebayo), Jennifer Holland (Emilia Harcourt), Freddie Stroma (Vigilante), Steve Agee (John Economos), and Robert Patrick (as Peacemaker’s not-so-dead dad, somehow). They’re joined by new additions Tim Meadows, who plays shady ARGUS agent Langston Fleury with scene-stealing flair, Frank Grillo (as Rick Flag Sr.), David Denman, Sol Rodriguez.

And this time around, Peacemaker isn’t just rubbing shoulders with his chaotic crew—he’s crossing paths with some of the DCU’s biggest names.

The trailer kicks off with Peacemaker being grilled by Guy Gardner/Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion), Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), and Maxwell Lord (Sean Gunn). All three characters will also appear in James Gunn’s upcoming Superman movie, giving fans a taste of how Peacemaker will connect with the larger rebooted DC Universe.

When Green Lantern asks about his qualifications, Cena’s Chris Smith replies, dead serious: “I’m considered the finest marksman in the world.” Hawkgirl, unimpressed, quips, “Is the microphone off?” Seconds later: “This guy sucks.”

But don’t count him out just yet.

Season 2 picks up with Chris still trying to make sense of his past and his warped moral compass—all while continuing his “peace at any cost” mission, punching evil in the face, and maybe (just maybe) finding a little growth along the way.

Behind the scenes, James Gunn wrote all eight episodes and directed three, including the premiere. He also returns as executive producer alongside Peter Safran and John Cena. Directors Greg Mottola, Peter Sollett, and Althea Jones round out the lineup. The series is produced by Gunn’s Troll Court Entertainment and The Safran Company in association with Warner Bros. Television.

One major twist teased at the end of the trailer? Another Peacemaker. In what appears to be a pocket dimension, Chris comes face-to-face with a variant of himself—gun drawn and not exactly friendly. This isn’t just a cool gag—it could be the key to bridging Gunn’s new DCU with remnants of the old DCEU (The Suicide Squad, Justice League, etc.).

While it’s unclear exactly how much continuity is being carried over, what’s certain is that Peacemaker is the connective tissue we didn’t know we needed between Gunn’s new universe and what came before.

Also confirmed: Eagly is still the best bird on TV. Vigilante is still chaos incarnate. And Harcourt? Still dishing out beatdowns with ease.

Save the date: Peacemaker Season 2 premieres August 21 at 9PM ET/PT on Max.
Check out the trailer now—because ready or not, Peacemaker is back and bringing the whole DCU with him.
