BET+ just released the official trailer for Onyx, its upcoming sci-fi thriller about friendship, personal dilemmas, and a desert getaway gone completely left. The film is set to premiere Thursday, May 22, exclusively on BET+.
Starring Jennifer Freeman, Tanjareen Thomas, Ariane Andrew, Sean Riggs, Nate Walker, A.J. Littlejohn, and Erika Rose St. Louis, Onyx is written and directed by Stefano Milla, with music by Enrico Sabena. The film is executive produced by Vincent E. McDaniel, David Gendron, and Stefan Klink, with producers Kevin Weisberg, Damien Douglas, Ryan D. Adams, Justin Kreinbrink, Jim Burleson, and Dan Yoon Hyuck Choi.
The story follows three longtime friends—Sam, Diane, and Shannon—who head to a rural Arizona adventure camp to help one of them recover from a bad breakup and shake off the weight of everyday life. But what was supposed to be a healing escape turns into a high-stakes survival mission when they find themselves caught in the middle of an alien invasion.
Jennifer Freeman plays Sam, a firefighter with a quiet strength and a tendency to take on everyone’s pain but her own. She’s principled and loyal, but burdened by guilt—and on this trip, she’s forced to confront it all.
Tanjareen Thomas takes on Diane, a loud, fast-talking salon owner who’s always front and center. She’s got swagger for days and confidence to match, even if it sometimes masks what’s really going on inside.
Ariane Andrew plays Shannon, a former Marine who left active duty after the trauma of what she witnessed in combat. She’s got the skills to lead and the heart to help, but her past haunts her, making every moment a mental battle.
Sean Riggs plays Noah, a fellow firefighter and Sam’s love interest, who’s trying to earn back her trust while dealing with his own insecurities and a complicated romantic history.
Nate Walker is AKA, a man who’s withdrawn from society and is now holed up in Arizona, deep in his conspiracy theory bag. He’s suspicious of everything and everyone—technology, the government, even his own shadow—and he just might be the one person prepared for what’s coming.
A.J. Littlejohn plays Cody, the camp’s ridiculously fit and unbothered manager who coasts on survival skills and charm. And Erika Rose St. Louis portrays Gwen, a stunning human-alien hybrid with no memory of who she is or how she got there. As the invasion unfolds, she begins to realize she’s at the center of something far bigger than she could’ve imagined.
With a mix of suspense, mystery, and otherworldly intrigue, Onyx explores survival, forgiveness, and what it means to show up for your people when the stakes couldn’t be higher.
