Peacock has released the first teaser for Crystal Lake, the highly anticipated prequel series to the Friday the 13th franchise, and set an October 15 premiere date for all eight episodes.
The A24-produced series comes from creator, writer and showrunner Brad Caleb Kane, whose credits include IT: Welcome to Derry and Tokyo Vice. Set in the 1970s, the series follows Pam Voorhees, a single mother unable to shake her grief after her young, sickly son Jason tragically drowned in the town lake almost a year before. When two strangers arrive at her door digging into her past, a disturbing chain of events is set into motion, leaving the townspeople of Crystal Lake wondering just who Pam Voorhees really is.
While the Friday the 13th franchise built its legacy around the hockey-masked Jason, longtime fans know the origin of the horror begins with his mother Pamela. Crystal Lake gives that story the full treatment it has never received, exploring the woman behind the mythology before Jason ever picked up a machete.
Linda Cardellini leads the series as Pam Voorhees, joined by William Catlett as Officer Levon Brooks, Devin Kessler as Brianna, Cameron Scoggins as Officer Dorf, Gwendolyn Sundstrom and Nick Cordileone as Crazy Ralph. Callum Vinson, known for Chucky, plays young Jason Voorhees. Recurring cast includes Joy Suprano, Danielle Kotch and Phoenix Parnevik.
The series is directed by Michael Lennox, known for Derry Girls, across the first three episodes, Celine Held and Logan George, known for Caddo Lake, for episodes four through six, and Quyen Tran, known for The Pitt, for the final two. Executive producers include Kane, Marc Toberoff, Victor Miller, Robert M. Barsamian, Robert P. Barsamian, Stuart Manashil, Tyson Bidner, Michael Lennox and Roy Lee.
All eight episodes of Crystal Lake premiere Thursday, October 15 on Peacock.
