The Southside just got a lot messier—and fans of the Power Universe are eating.
Starz has officially announced that Power Book III: Raising Kanan will wrap after its fifth season, marking the end of Kanan Stark’s origin story. But before the credits roll, the series is teeing up one of the franchise’s most anticipated characters: Branford “Breeze” Frady.
Played by Dope and Wu-Tang: An American Saga star Shameik Moore, Breeze made his first on-screen appearance in Sunday night’s explosive Season 4 finale. If you’re a longtime Power viewer, that name should already ring bells. Breeze is a street legend in the lore—frequently mentioned but never seen until now. And now that he’s finally arrived, things are only going to get more dangerous.
Breeze enters the picture as the nephew of Snaps (Wendell Pierce) and Pop (Erika Woods), who introduce him to Kanan (Mekai Curtis) in a meeting that’s more tension than trust. Still, the introduction plants the seed for a pivotal alliance—one that not only ties directly into the original Power series but also sets the stage for the story’s next evolution.
“I jumped into a story that is already alive with such strong characters, but it was a fun challenge to find Breeze’s unique identity,” Moore shared. “I can’t wait for fans to see how Breeze will shift dynamics in the story. It’s gonna be a wild ride.”
For those new to the backstory: Breeze is the infamous dealer who once mentored a young Kanan—and recruited Ghost (James St. Patrick) and Tommy Egan to work the corners. That era, which takes place right around the timeline Season 5 will explore, is where everything changed. Ghost eventually kills Breeze in a move that defines his character for the rest of the franchise.
And while Raising Kanan is winding down, this may not be the end of the origin tales. Starz is developing another prequel series titled Origins, which would pick up after the events of Raising Kanan and bridge the gap between the prequel and the original Power. The spinoff has not yet been ordered to series, but with Breeze now introduced, Young Ghost and Tommy wouldn’t be far behind.
Sascha Penn, the show’s creator and showrunner, confirmed that ending with Season 5 was always the plan.
“It was always my intention that Raising Kanan would run for five seasons,” Penn said. “And thanks to my friends and partners at Starz and Lionsgate—as well as the incredible cast, crew, and writing staff—I’ve been able to tell the entirety of the story I set out to tell way back in 2019.”
But he also teased a big finish: “There is still an exceptionally intense and action-packed season left, and I assure you that the stakes for Kanan and the entire Thomas family have never been higher.”
And if you caught the Season 4 finale, you know Penn wasn’t just blowing smoke.
The episode was a rollercoaster: Kanan unraveled after the murder of his girlfriend Krystal, convinced his mother Raq (Patina Miller) was behind it. Jukebox (Hailey Kilgore) tried to keep him grounded, but the weight of betrayal—and years of buried resentment—sent him spiraling. Meanwhile, Unique (Joey Bada$$) re-entered the chessboard with his own brand of chaos, shaking up the Thomas family’s fragile foundation.
By the end of the finale, Kanan stood in front of Raq with a gun pointed at her chest, demanding answers and blaming her for the blood on his hands—and the bodies in his life. The screen went black, and the sound of a single gunshot left us with one question: did Kanan finally cross the line?
As the dust settles, it’s clear this isn’t just the end of a chapter—it’s a closing act for one of the most compelling arcs in the Power Universe.
With Power Book IV: Force also set to end after one final season, and Power Book II: Ghost already wrapped, the franchise is facing a major crossroads. But according to sources, several Power projects are quietly in development. Whether that means Origins gets a greenlight—or the franchise pivots in a new direction—remains to be seen.
For now, fans can revisit all four seasons of Power Book III: Raising Kanan streaming on Starz. And if this finale was any indication, Season 5 is going out with the kind of bang only the Power Universe knows how to deliver.
