Prime Video Reveals Trailer and Key Art for ‘The Greatest,’ the First Authorized Muhammad Ali Series

Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video have unveiled the official trailer and key art for The Greatest, the first authorized scripted series chronicling the life of Muhammad Ali. All eight episodes premiere November 4 in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide, exclusively on Prime Video.

The series traces Ali’s coming-of-age story, following a young Cassius Clay through the personal, professional, and political battles he fought both inside and outside the ring. Set against a shifting America, the show follows a once-in-a-generation talent fighting for the right to define himself on his own terms, tracking his transformation from a young man in Louisville into Muhammad Ali. Newcomer Jaalen Best stars as Cassius Clay, alongside Omari Hardwick as Cassius Clay Sr., Dana Gourrier as Odessa “Bird” Clay, Kai Parham as Rudy Clay, Amin Joseph as Sonny Liston, Giovanni Ribisi as Angelo Dundee, and Michael Ealy as Malcolm X.

The project’s significance is tied directly to its authorized status, a rarity for a figure as frequently depicted on screen as Ali. Lonnie Ali, the late icon’s wife, serves as an executive producer, giving the production direct access and approval from his estate in a way earlier dramatizations of his life have not had. Created, executive produced, and showrunned by Ben Watkins, the series is produced through Watkins’ Blue Monday Productions alongside Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society, Authentic Studios, Roc Nation, Polygram Entertainment, and Grace: A Storytelling Company, a production lineup that places several Black-led companies at the center of telling one of boxing and civil rights history’s most consequential stories.

Outlier Society president Elizabeth Raposo executive produces alongside Authentic Brands Group’s Corey Salter, Matthew Gross, and Marc Rosen. Additional executive producers include Craig Siebels, Aiyana White, Jeff Augustin, Katie Wech, Owen Shiflett, Boyd Muir, Michele Anthony, Josh Wakely, Shawn Carter, and Desiree Perez of Roc Nation, with David Blackman and Stefano Agosto serving as co-executive producers.

With all eight episodes premiering at once on November 4, the real question is whether The Greatest can offer audiences a version of Ali’s story that goes beyond the version most already know, the one built around his fights and his fame, toward the more complicated man behind both.
