Quinta Brunson and Anderson .Paak are the latest to join the cast of Universal Pictures musical collaboration between director Michel Gondry and producer Pharrell Williams.
The project draws inspiration from Williams’ upbringing in 1970s Virginia Beach, specifically focusing on his experiences in the Atlantis Apartments. They join a cast led by Kelvin Harrison Jr. (‘Chevalier’), Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Halle Bailey, Brian Tyree Henry (Class of ’09), Janelle Monae, and Missy Elliott.
Tim Meadows (Dream Scenario), Jaboukie Young-White (C’mon C’mon), Jamilah Rosemond (Rustin), and Jayson Lee (61st Street) round out the cast.
Penned by Martin Hynes and Steven Levenson, the script delves into the pivotal moments of Pharrell Williams’ youth. Although details regarding the cast’s specific roles remain undisclosed, the project is under the careful guidance of Williams and Mimi Valdés through i am OTHER, along with Gil Netter for Gil Netter Productions.
This venture is part of a series of Pharrell Williams-inspired films currently in development, including “Piece by Piece,” a Lego-based depiction of Williams’ life directed by Oscar winner Morgan Neville, slated for release on October 11, 2024.
