Regina Hall is expanding her creative reach into the world of unscripted television. The Girls Trip and The Best Man: Final Chapters star, through her Rh Negative production company, has secured an exclusive first-look deal with MGM Alternative, the unscripted arm of Amazon MGM Studios. This new partnership will see Hall and her team developing a variety of unscripted content, including game shows, true crime series, and ensemble docuseries.
The first project in development under this deal is titled Squad Games (working title), a competition series that brings celebrities and their real-life best friends together for an exotic getaway filled with thrilling challenges. The series draws inspiration from Hall’s hit film Girls Trip, which co-starred Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Tiffany Haddish.
“I’m so excited for this new partnership with MGM,” Hall shared in a statement. “I’m positive that the relationship between Rh Negative and their team will be incredibly supportive and productive, and I’m thrilled about what we have in the works.”
Barry Poznick, General Manager of MGM Alternative, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, highlighting Hall’s charisma and storytelling. “Ever since we saw Regina Hall co-hosting the Academy Awards two years ago, we knew she had something special that would resonate with reality audiences,” Poznick said. “Her humor, honesty, creativity, and style of storytelling make her a perfect partner as we continue to expand our slate of premium unscripted programming.”
Hall’s Rh Negative production company has been behind a variety of projects, including the dark comedy Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul and the psychological thriller Master, both of which were well-received. Honk for Jesus premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2022 and became the second-highest sale of the festival, earning Hall an Independent Spirit Award nomination.
Looking ahead, Hall is set to appear in Searchlight Pictures’ original sci-fi rock opera O’Dessa, and she will also star alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Sean Penn in Paul Thomas Anderson’s upcoming film. As Hall continues to explore new creative ventures, this deal marks Rh Negative’s first major step into unscripted television production, adding another dimension to Hall’s versatile career.
