Riele Downs and Page Kennedy have joined the cast of the upcoming film “A Breed Apart,” as the production confirms it has finalized its ensemble. The film, which builds on the cult classic “The Breed,” produced by Wes Craven in 2006, is described as a sequel set years after the original movie’s events.
They join Virginia Gardner and Grace Caroline Currey, who were previously announced and are known for their roles in the vertigo-inducing Netflix thriller “Fall.” Joey Bragg, Troy Gentile, and Hayden Panettiere also star in the feature.
The plot of “A Breed Apart” centers on a group of YouTubers who travel to a remote island, the setting for the fictional movie “The Breed 2,” in hopes of finding a pack of dogs that escaped during filming. The group, led by influencer Vince Venture—played by Joey Bragg—intends to create viral content from the adventure. However, they soon find themselves in a struggle for survival, relying on their unique skills to stay alive.
Brothers Griff and Nathan Furst are directing and producing the film under their Curmudgeon Films banner, with Daro Film Distribution co-producing and financing. “A Breed Apart” is slated for release in 2025.
Hayden Panettiere, a two-time Golden Globe nominee, is also set to star in the upcoming Lionsgate thriller “Amber Alert,” in which she takes the lead role. Panettiere is represented by Mainstay Entertainment, Independent Artists Group, and the legal firm Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller, Gellman, Meigs & Fox.
The release of “A Breed Apart” is highly anticipated, as it revisits the chilling premise of its predecessor while introducing a fresh take on survival horror, promising to captivate audiences when it hits theaters in 2025.
