David Oyelowo is a Clueless Husband in Comedic Spy Thriller ‘Role Play’ [TRAILER]

Prime Video’s upcoming release, “Role Play,” starring Kaley Cuoco and David Oyelowo, takes audiences on a wild ride of humor and suspense. Directed by Thomas Vincent and written by Seth Owen, the comedic action spy thriller is set to premiere on January 12, 2024.

Cuoco assumes the role of Emma, a seemingly content suburban wife with a loving husband, David, played by Oyelowo, and two kids. The plot takes an unexpected turn when the couple decides to spice up their love life through role-playing. However, the romantic endeavor unravels into chaos when Emma’s secret life as a hired assassin is exposed.

Now David being questioned is confused and now grappling with the cluelessness he has had regarding his wife’s alter life. Emma’s secret profession as an assassin finds them both dealing with the consequences of Emma’s hidden profession. The movie explores whether their seven-year itch can be overcome as they navigate the complexities of trust, love, and deception.

Studiocanal fully finances the production through The Picture Company, with Amazon Prime Video securing rights for the U.S. and various offshore territories. Brillstein Entertainment Partners’ George Heller originated the film’s concept.

Filmed primarily in Berlin, Germany, “Role Play” also features Bill Nighy and Connie Nielsen. The trailer, available above, provides a sneak peek into the action-packed and humorous journey awaiting viewers.

Director Thomas Vincent describes the movie as a contemporary twist on “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” stating to EW, “It’s a new version of Mr. & Mrs. Smith. It’s about a couple who’s struggling with a seven-year itch situation and trying to overcome it.”

Vincent underscores the chemistry between Cuoco and Oyelowo as the driving force behind the film’s narrative.

“Role Play” hits Prime Video this January.
