Rosario Dawson and André Holland are set to voice key characters in Netflix’s upcoming animated series “Terminator Zero,” debuting on August 29. This eight-episode sci-fi action anime, developed by Mattson Tomlin, marks the first animated installment in the Terminator franchise.
Set in Japan, “Terminator Zero” follows Malcolm Lee (Holland), a computer programmer working on an AI system to rival SkyNet. As Judgment Day approaches in 1997, Lee and his three children are targeted by a robot assassin. Their only hope lies in a mysterious soldier from 2022, sent back in time to protect them.

Dawson voices Kokoro, an advanced AI designed to match SkyNet’s capabilities. The cast also features Timothy Olyphant as the Terminator, Ann Dowd as The Prophet, a philosophical guide for the human resistance, and Sonoya Mizuno as Eiko, a resistance fighter with a mission to stop Malcolm from launching Kokoro.
The series explores the moral complexities faced by Malcolm as he navigates the consequences of his creation, all while being hunted by an assassin from the future. The series will delve into the dual timelines, highlighting the ongoing war in 2022 between humans and machines, and the critical events of 1997 that set the stage for humanity’s struggle for survival.
Mattson Tomlin’s vision is brought to life with the support of executive producers David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger from Skydance. With Production I.G’s renowned animation prowess, “Terminator Zero” is set to be a visually stunning and narratively rich addition to the Terminator saga.
“Terminator Zero” premieres on August 29, 2024, on Netflix.
