Netflix is keeping the ball in play—Running Point has officially been renewed for a second season, just one week after its debut.

The streaming giant announced the news on Thursday, but it was Kate Hudson who broke it to fans with excitement. In a video shared to Netflix’s official X account, she said:

“A good basketball team owner knows when to listen to the fans. So we hear you, and so did Netflix. Running Point is officially coming back for Season 2! Thank you so much to everyone who watched the show so far. I’m just beyond thrilled because you’re really the reason why we’re able to come back and do another season. So thank you, and we’ll see you next season!”

A renewal this fast? That’s a clear sign Running Point is already running up the score.

The single-cam sports comedy follows Isla Gordon (Hudson), the sharp yet often-overlooked daughter of a legendary pro basketball franchise owner. When her brother, the team president, is ousted in a scandal, Isla is unexpectedly put in charge of the Los Angeles Waves. Now, she has to prove to her skeptical brothers, the board, and the entire sports world that she’s more than ready for the job.

Hudson leads a stacked cast, including Brenda Song, Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, Fabrizio Guido, Toby Sandeman, Chet Hanks, Jay Ellis, Max Greenfield, Justin Theroux, and Justin Hurtt-Dunkley.

Running Point is created by Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz, and David Stassen, with Stassen also serving as showrunner. Hudson isn’t just the face of the series—she’s also an executive producer, alongside Jeanie Buss (president of the Los Angeles Lakers) and Linda Rambis (Lakers’ special projects manager), adding some real-life basketball expertise behind the scenes. Warner Bros. Television produces the series as part of Kaling’s overall deal with the studio.

Mindy Kaling also shared her excitement about the renewal, saying:

“We are so thrilled to be able to deliver a Season 2 of Running Point to the fans. We still cannot believe the response from audiences—thank you to everyone who has watched! Huge thanks to our partners at Netflix, Warner Brothers, our incredible star Kate Hudson, and of course, executive producers Jeanie Buss and Linda Rambis, without whom there would be no Running Point.”

With its mix of comedy, sports drama, and family dynamics, Running Point has clearly made its mark with Netflix viewers. While there’s no word yet on when Season 2 will arrive, it’s safe to say Isla Gordon and the Waves aren’t getting benched anytime soon.
