Samuel L. Jackson and Dave Bautista Team up for Action-Adventure Film "Afterburn"

Samuel L. Jackson and Dave Bautista is set to team up for the upcoming action-adventure film “Afterburn,” as announced by Black Bear, Endurance Media, Dogbone Entertainment, and Original Films. Directed by J.J. Perry, renowned for his work on blockbuster franchises like “John Wick” and “Fast and Furious,” the film is based on the graphic novel of the same name, set in a world devastated by a solar flare that destroyed global technology a decade ago.

Bautista takes on the role of Jake, a former soldier turned treasure hunter, hired to recover the Mona Lisa before a dangerous warlord seizes it for himself. Jackson’s role in the film has been left unspecified. Filming is scheduled to commence in April in Europe.

J.J. Perry, who recently directed the Bautista thriller “The Killer’s Game” for Lionsgate, brings his expertise in stunt coordination and directing to “Afterburn.” Perry is well-known for his work on iconic franchises like “John Wick” and “Fast and Furious.”

Produced by Neal H. Moritz of the “Fast and Furious” series, Toby Jaffe of “Total Recall,” and Steve Richards of “Sherlock Holmes,” the project is backed by Dogbone Entertainment, Bautista’s production company. The combination of Bautista and Jackson, two prominent figures in action cinema, is expected to make “Afterburn” a compelling cinematic experience.

“Afterburn” is described as a thrilling action story, blending the excitement of “Indiana Jones” with the near-future world depicted in “Children of Men.” The film aims to captivate audiences with authentic, practical stunt work, creating visceral and unforgettable set pieces.

Black Bear is presenting “Afterburn” at the European Film Market, with CAA Media Finance handling U.S. distribution rights. The movie is adapted from the Red 5 comic/graphic novel series of the same name.

Bautista, represented by CAA, Meisner Entertainment Group, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman Wertheimer Mandelbaum Morris Bernstein Trattner & Klein, is known for his action prowess and versatility. Perry is represented by WME, Holly Jeter, and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.

“Afterburn” promises to be a spectacular cinematic event, combining the talents of Bautista, Jackson, and Perry, along with the backing of accomplished producers in the industry.
