Samuel L. Jackson has been confirmed to star in the upcoming drama film “Last Meals,” directed by Andrew Levitas. Nicholls Fellowship-winning writer Justin Piasecki penned the script.
In the movie, Jackson will portray Walter, a disgraced former White House chef who now works at a maximum-security prison where he prepares last meals for inmates on death row. Holbrook plays Reed, a prisoner who embarks on a hunger strike during Walter’s watch. Despite their initial differences, the two men develop an unlikely bond that gives Walter a glimpse into the soul of a man who is willing to forgo his last pleasurable experience to protest his innocence.
The script for “Last Meals” garnered positive feedback in recent years but was initially impacted by the pandemic. “Last Meals” was originally set to be directed by British filmmaker Adewale Akinnuoye Agbaje and star Delroy Lindo. However, the film has undergone several changes since then, with Levitas stepping in as director and Jackson taking over the lead role.
The project is being produced and co-financed by Sentient Entertainment’s Renée Tab and Christopher Tuffin, as well as Morgan Freeman, Gary Lucchesi, Lori McCreary, and Michael McKay of Revelations Entertainment. Andrew Schefter, Justin Piasecki, Myles Nestel, and Lisa Wilson are serving as executive producers.
The Solution has taken over international sales, while CAA Media Finance will co-rep domestic. Piasecki’s previous script, “Stakehorse,” was recently acquired by Amazon in a heated bidding war.
Jackson is represented by CAA, Anonymous Entertainment, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman Wertheimer Mandelbaum Morris Bernstein Trattner & Klein. Holbrook is represented by WME Entertainment and Range Media Partners. Levitas is represented by CAA and Range Media Partners, while Piasecki is represented by Paradigm and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller, Gellman, Meigs & Fox, L.L.P.
