Samuel L Jackson’s action flick The Protege gets a release date. Maggie Q and Michael Keaton also star in the action movie.
Martin Campbell directs the Lionsgate film off Richard Wenks script.
In the film assassin Moody (Samuel L. Jackson) rescues trains Anna (Maggie Q) after a massacre in Saigon. He trains her in the family business, grooming her to be the world’s most skilled contract killer. For years, they traversed the globe and completed high-profile contracts. But when Moody – the man who was like a father to her and taught her everything she needs to know about trust and survival – is brutally killed, Anna vows revenge.
Anna returns to Vietnam to track down his killer, and, in the process she becomes entangled with an enigmatic killer (Michael Keaton) whose attraction to her goes way beyond cat and mouse. Their confrontation turns deadly and the loose ends of a life spent killing will weave themselves ever tighter.

Arthur Sarkissian, Moshe Diamant, Rob Van Norden, Yariv Lerner, and Chris Milburn are producing the film.
Lionsgate is releasing the film, formally titled The Asset on August 20, 2021.
