Dominique Fishback and Anthony Ramos to co-lead the latest installment of Hollywood’s biggest franchise, Transformers.
Creed II helmer Steven Caple Jr. is directing the film for Paramount, eOne and Hasbro as they talk final negotiations with Fishback to confirm her spot. While Ramos was always a frontrunner for the lead role, the role of Fishback’s character was hard-won, as Paramount reportedly tested a number of actresses for the co-lead opposite Ramos.
Details on this latest Transformers aren’t revealed but Paramount and eOne are looking to build out the next iteration of the franchise.
Since the very first Transformers movie was released in 2007, the action-pack film has brought in some of the highest returns for Paramount. With over five films in tow, the franchise has grossed more than $4 billion worldwide. However after the 2017 release of Transformers: The Last Knight, the film’s longtime director Michael Bay parted ways with the series and the studio revamped the entire project. Darnell Metayer and Josh Peters wrote the newest Transformers based off a script by Joby Harold. Skydance is co-financing and executive producing. New Republic Pictures is also a co-financing partner.
The film is bowing on June 24, 2022.
Fishback has been having one hell of a year. This past year she starred in Project Power and most recently in Judas and the Black Messiah. Up next she will co-star with Samuel L. Jackson in the Apple series The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey. She’s also working on turning her one-woman play Subverted into a feature which she will also exec produce with her Project Power co-star Jamie Foxx and Datari Turner.
Since his breakout role as one of the original cast members of Hamilton, Ramos star has been on the rise. That leading man status is only expected to grow with the highly-anticipated adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In The Heights bowing this summer with Ramos leading the ensemble cast.
No word on when this new Transformers movie will start production.
