SLAY TV is making its return, and it is bringing its flagship series with it. The digital media network, founded to center Black LGBTQ+ storytelling across original scripted and unscripted content, is reviving alongside Season 2 of Unrequited, the award-winning LGBTQ+ dramedy web series from creator and showrunner Juss Thrasher.
Unrequited follows Liam, a lonely introvert struggling with a secret crush and his own mental health. His one-sided affection causes him to blur the lines between reality and fantasy, leading to conversations with a man who does not exist. The first season centered on Liam’s therapy journey, tackling themes of isolation, self-discovery, and emotional care within queer communities — normalizing mental health conversations in a space where they are rarely centered. The series earned recognition on the festival circuit, picking up awards including Best Acting Ensemble at the NYC Web Fest and Best Film and Best Director at the Black LGBTQ Film Festival. Details on the Season 2 plot have not yet been revealed.
Shar Jackson, best known for playing Niecy on the UPN sitcom Moesha, will headline the season and co-direct alongside Thrasher. Mo Heart, the RuPaul’s Drag Race veteran, joins the cast and also serves as creative producer. Patrik Simpson, star of the Amazon Prime Video reality series Gown and Out in Beverly Hills, comes aboard as both a cast member and executive producer. Brittney Ayona Clemons, known for her work on Issa Rae’s Insecure and Rap Sh!t, also joins as a new addition. Returning from Season 1 are lead Todd A. Jackson and actor Jonny Williams, who recently appeared on Law & Order and Beast Games.
On the creative side, legendary Beverly Hills couture designer Pol’ Atteu, whose recent credits include lead costume designer on the Emmy-winning soap opera The Bay, is attached to the production alongside his husband Patrik Simpson, who rounds out both the cast and producing team.
A premiere date and further production details are expected in the coming weeks.
