Sherri Shepherd, Ashleigh Murray and More to Star in Indie Drama The Way Out

Sherri Shepherd, Ashleigh Murray, Mike Manning, and Jonny Beauchamp are set to star in the indie drama The Way Out.

The founder of Barry’s gym franchise, Barry Jay is writing, directing, and producing the film under his newly launched production company Fight Or Flight Films.

In The Way Out, Alex Romero (Beauchamp) is a struggling addict who takes unconventional advice from manipulative boxer Shane Collins (Manning). As Shane takes Alex under his wing and teaches him fighting techniques, Alex confronts demons from his past while finally taking control of his own life. In spite of being cautioned by his sponsor (Shepherd) and his best friend (Murray), Alex follows Shane’s guidance and finds himself walking a dark path that jeopardizes not only his sobriety, but also his life.

Carl Rumbaugh, Nick Theurer, and Artisha Mann-Cooper are also producing the project with Shepherd and Manning serving as executive producers. Filming is currently underway.

Shepherd was recently starred in the ABC pilot Black Don’t Crack. It followed three former sorority sisters, played by Shepherd, Essence Atkins and Tisha Campbell, who lost touch after college and reunite during a pivotal point in their lives. They realize sometimes it’s okay to crack and when you do, no one will be there for you like your friends. However, ABC passed on the pilot.

Ashleigh Murray is best known for her role singer-songwriter Josie McCoy on the hit CW series, Riverdale. She since left the series, that is now canceled, to star in its spinoff series Katy Keene which also starred Beauchamp. Mike Manning is best known for his role in Days Of Our Lives.
