Prime Video has released a sneak peek into its drama, “Sitting in Bars with Cake,” showcasing first-look images and shedding light on the story that revolves around friendship, resilience, and the pursuit of happiness. The film stars a talented ensemble cast including Yara Shahidi, Odessa A’zion, Ron Livingston, and Bette Midler. Set to premiere exclusively on Prime Video on September 8, the movie will take audiences on an emotional journey through the intricacies of life, relationships, and baking.

Directed by Trish Sie, known for her work on “Pitch Perfect 3,” the film draws inspiration from real-life events and is adapted from the book of the same name by Audrey Shulman, who also wrote the screenplay. “Sitting in Bars with Cake” centers on the lives of best friends Jane (Yara Shahidi) and Corinne (Odessa A’zion) as they navigate the challenges and opportunities of their twenties against the vibrant backdrop of Los Angeles.

In a unique twist, Corinne encourages Jane, a talented but introverted home baker, to embark on a year-long project they call “cakebarring.” The challenge involves baking cakes and bringing them to bars, a creative endeavor aimed at building confidence and fostering new connections. However, their 20 year friendship is put through the test when Corinne receives a life-altering diagnosis.

The film is not just a celebration of female friendship, but also an exploration of self-discovery and finding joy in unexpected places. Themes of resilience, cherishing meaningful moments, and embracing the complexities of friendship and love are central to the narrative, offering a relatable and emotionally resonant experience for audiences.

Culinary producer and food stylist Megan Potthoff worked closely with director Trish Sie to ensure that the cakes showcased in the film not only looked visually appealing but also effectively conveyed their deliciousness on-screen.

The first-look trailer provides a glimpse into the captivating world of “Sitting in Bars with Cake.” The film’s trailer hints at the chemistry between the talented ensemble cast, offering a taste of the emotional journey that awaits viewers.
