‘Snowfall’ Spinoff Secures Pilot Order at FX, Gail Bean and Isaiah John Set to Return

The Snowfall universe is expanding, and it’s officially go-time. FX has greenlit a pilot for the highly anticipated Snowfall spinoff, marking a major step forward for the next chapter of this iconic series.

We first posted about this back in 2023, this spinoff will see Snowfall star Gail Bean reprise her role as Wanda Bell-Simmons, and she won’t be making the jump alone—Isaiah John is also set to return as Leon Simmons. Now, with a pilot order in place, the streets of South Central Los Angeles are about to get a whole new storyline, this time set in the ’90s.

According to the official logline, the spinoff picks up in the early ’90s, following a recovering addict (Bean) as she fights to bring West Coast rap to the mainstream—all while navigating the fallout of a deadly gang war.

Malcolm Spellman (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Empire) is set to write and executive produce, alongside Snowfall alums Dave Andron, Thomas Schlamme, Julie DeJoie, Michael London, and Trevor Engelson. FX Productions will continue to be the studio behind the project.

Created by the late, great John Singleton, along with Eric Amadio and Andron, Snowfall became a cultural force by capturing the rise of the crack cocaine epidemic in 1980s Los Angeles. Over six seasons, the show followed Franklin Saint (Damson Idris), a young drug kingpin trying to navigate a world filled with power struggles, CIA involvement, and ruthless enemies.

Wanda’s journey was one of the most gripping storylines of the series—she went from a bright young woman to struggling with addiction and homelessness before finding redemption and love with Leon. Now, her story continues, taking us into a new era where music, money, and street politics collide.

With a pilot officially in the works, the Snowfall spinoff is shaping up to be a must-watch. And if it’s anything like the original, expect a show that keeps you on the edge of your seat while serving up an unfiltered look at history in the making.

Stay tuned—because this story is just getting started.
