Paramount+ has announced that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will officially end with its fifth and final season. The fan-favorite series, which stars Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn, Ethan Peck, Jess Bush, Christina Chong, Celia Rose Gooding, Melissa Navia, Babs Olusanmokun, and Martin Quinn, returns for Season 3 on Thursday, July 17 with a two-episode premiere. Guest star Carol Kane and special guest star Paul Wesley also return this season.
Production on Season 5, which will consist of six episodes, is expected to begin later this year. This announcement comes ahead of the Season 3 debut, with Paramount+ also confirming that Season 4 is currently in production.
The official trailer for Season 3 is now out, teasing what Captain Pike calls “whatever kind of adventure we want it to be.” And based on what’s been shown, that adventure includes some genre-bending surprises—Spock and Chapel in bed together, a Vulcan version of Patton Oswalt carrying roses, the crew caught in a Knives Out-style murder mystery, and future crewmates Kirk and Scotty sharing a drink and some early camaraderie.
Following its premiere, new episodes will drop every Thursday through September 11. The series has consistently been praised for its episodic storytelling and fresh take on classic Trek, with its first two seasons earning Certified Fresh status on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s also picked up a number of accolades, including a Best Drama Series nomination from the Critics Choice Awards and a Saturn Award win for Best Science Fiction Television Series.
In a joint statement, executive producers Akiva Goldsman, Henry Alonso Myers, and Alex Kurtzman said, “From the very beginning, Strange New Worlds set out to honor what Star Trek has always stood for — boundless curiosity, hope, and the belief that a better future is possible. We’re deeply grateful to Paramount+ for the chance to complete our five-season mission, just as we envisioned it, alongside our extraordinary cast and crew. And to the passionate fans who’ve boldly joined us on this journey — thank you. With three more spectacular seasons ahead for you to see and enjoy, this adventure is far from over.”
Produced by CBS Studios, Secret Hideout, and Roddenberry Entertainment, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds continues to be one of Paramount+’s standout original series. The franchise’s presence on the streamer also includes Star Trek: Section 31 starring Michelle Yeoh, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Picard, and the animated Star Trek: Lower Decks.
Season 3 kicks off July 17 exclusively on Paramount+.
