Tubi is set to premiere Zero Star: The Cam Ward Story, a six-episode sports docuseries that charts Cam Ward’s unlikely rise from overlooked high school quarterback to the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
The series drops exclusively on the platform this September and offers an unfiltered, emotional look at Ward’s journey—from backyard football games in West Columbia, South Carolina, to leading the Miami Hurricanes and eventually making NFL history.
Developed and produced by Firebrand Media Group, the series was originally planned as a single installment in a broader “Zero Star” concept but has since evolved into a standalone deep dive into Ward’s story.
“Cam’s journey isn’t just about football—it’s about resilience, heart, and the power of second chances,” said director Alec Roth. “He was told ‘no’ at every stage, but never stopped believing in himself.”
Ward, who entered college as a zero-star recruit (meaning unranked and largely ignored by major scouts), had just one Division I offer coming out of high school. He began at the University of the Incarnate Word, where he made noise with a record-setting season before transferring to Washington State and then Miami. His Heisman campaign and eventual No. 1 draft pick selection by the Tennessee Titans made him the first zero-star recruit to go first overall in the modern era.
“Being overlooked—it was a blessing and a curse,” Ward said. “But I learned to play with nothing to lose.”
The series includes behind-the-scenes footage, interviews with his family, coaches, teammates, and never-before-seen footage chronicling the emotional highs and lows of a journey few believed was possible.
“From zero star to No. 1 pick, Cam Ward’s story is a rallying cry to all underdogs to face adversity head-on,” added Sam Harowitz, SVP of Content Acquisitions at Tubi.
Ward’s family also appears throughout the series, adding emotional depth to the story. His sister Chantel shares how she watched him question whether the dream was worth it, while his father Calvin recalls always believing in his son, even when the world didn’t.
Produced by Alec Roth (Billy Knight), Josh Clayton, Jeff Symon, Kirk Martin, Robby Clifford, Manoj Gandhi, Jelani Hawkins, Peter Morgan, Tuan Bui, and James Tartanella, the series also marks a creative milestone for Firebrand’s sports vertical, Fifteen58 Sports Management. The deal was brokered by Jeff Symon for Firebrand and Ian Nelson for Tubi.
