Starz has released the first look images and a teaser for Power: Origins, giving fans their first glimpse at the young versions of Ghost and Tommy ahead of the Power Book III: Raising Kanan series finale.
Spence Moore II, known for Creed III and All American, will play young James “Ghost” St. Patrick, while Charlie Mann, known for Primate and The Watchers, will play young Thomas “Tommy” Egan. Mekai Curtis reprises his role as Kanan Stark from Raising Kanan, reuniting the iconic trio in their early years. Ghost and Tommy were originally portrayed by Omari Hardwick and Joseph Sikora in the original Power series.
Set in the late 1990s and early 2000s, Power: Origins follows Ghost, Tommy and Kanan as ambitious young entrepreneurs on the rise, determined to make their mark on the streets of New York City. Starz describes it as “a fun, rambunctious exploration of a new time period in the Power franchise” centered on “the unbridled audacity of young men on the rise, determined to become legends in the game.”
The series also stars Asjha Cooper as Jarita, Kanan’s love interest and the future mother of his son Shawn, Zuri Reed as Tasha St. Patrick, with a recurring cast that includes Jennifer Ferrin as Kate Egan, Kelly McCreary as Melanie Rivers, Hill Harper as Burns, Jason Dirden as Traymont Stinson, Tonya Pinkins as Grandma Charlayne and Damon Gupton as Glover Archibald, among others.
Power: Origins is the fourth spinoff in the Power Universe, following Power Book II: Ghost, Power Book III: Raising Kanan and Power Book IV: Force. It received an 18-episode order and is currently in production in New Jersey. A fifth spinoff, Power: Legacy, starring Joseph Sikora and Michael Rainey Jr., has also been greenlit at Starz.
The series was created by Courtney A. Kemp, who created the original Power, and Sascha Penn, the creator of Raising Kanan. Penn serves as showrunner and executive producer. Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson executive produces through G-Unit Film and Television, alongside Mark Canton through Canton Entertainment, Chris Selak, Kevin Fox and Pete Chatmon, who is also set to direct six episodes. Lionsgate Television produces the series for Starz.
The Power Book III: Raising Kanan series finale airs August 7 on Starz.
