NBC is set to produce a new mockumentary comedy series that will feature NBA legend Steph Curry.
Titled “Mr. Throwback”, the show is about a struggling memorabilia dealer who seeks redemption by reconnecting with his sixth-grade teammate, the famous basketball player. The series is created by David Caspe, the mind behind popular shows like “Happy Endings”, and writing duo Matthew Libman and Daniel Libman. The show will be produced by Universal Television in association with Curry’s Unanimous Media.
Apart from Curry, the show will also star Adam Pally, who co-created the series with the Libmans. The trio will also serve as executive producers alongside Erick Peyton of Unanimous Media. Pally is known for his work in shows like “101 Places to Party Before You Die” and the upcoming Arnold Schwarzenegger series “Fubar”.
The project marks the first collaboration between Curry and NBCUniversal since they entered into a global talent partnership in 2021. The partnership includes first-look development deals with Universal Studio Group for scripted and unscripted television projects and DreamWorks Animation for kids and family content.
The report mentions that the show will be in the mockumentary style that NBC is known for, as seen in hit shows like “The Office” and “Parks and Recreation”. The production team is confident that “Mr. Throwback” will be a fun and entertaining project that viewers will enjoy.
Curry, who is considered one of the greatest shooters in NBA history, launched Unanimous Media in 2018. The production company is behind shows like ABC gameshow “Holey Moley” and Apple docuseries “Underrated”. Caspe, on the other hand, is best known for creating shows like “Happy Endings”, “Black Monday”, and “Kenan”, among others.
