Stephan James and Keiynan Lonsdale Join the Cast of Netflix's 'War Machine'

Stephan James and Keiynan Lonsdale have officially joined the cast of the upcoming sci-fi action film ‘War Machine,’ directed by Patrick Hughes. This project, which was picked up by Netflix, is stars Alan Ritchson in the lead role.

The film’s ensemble cast features a lineup of talented actors, including Dennis Quaid (Reagan), Jai Courtney (The Suicide Squad), Esai Morales (Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One), Blake Richardson (Mystery Road), and Daniel Webber (The Dirt).

‘War Machine’ revolves around the harrowing final 24 hours of a rigorous selection program for Army Rangers, where recruits face an unimaginable threat. Alan Ritchson leads the charge as the primary Ranger candidate, while James, Courtney, Richardson, Lonsdale, and Webber portray fellow aspirants caught in the chaos. Dennis Quaid and Esai Morales will take on the roles of commanding officers.

The screenplay, co-written by Hughes and James Beaufort, promises a gripping narrative that blends intense action with psychological challenges faced by the recruits. Principal photography kicked off on September 16, 2024 in Australia and production is expected to run through December. Filming locations include the picturesque towns of Bright and Myrtleford, along with Melbourne and Docklands Studios, ensuring a visually stunning backdrop for the film.

Produced by Hughes alongside Todd Lieberman and Alex Young of Hidden Pictures, War Machine represents a significant investment in Victoria’s film industry. The project is expected to generate approximately 2,100 jobs, supporting around 80 local businesses and injecting over A$73 million (approximately $49 million) into the local economy. Victoria’s Minister for Creative Industries, Colin Brooks, highlighted the project’s economic benefits, noting that about A$7.5 million (around $5.1 million) will be directed toward local hospitality and services.
