Sterling K. Brown Joins Cast of Live-Action 'Voltron' Movie for Amazon MGM Studios

Sterling K. Brown is the latest addition to the cast of the live-action Voltron movie. The Emmy-winning actor joins Henry Cavill, rising star Daniel Quinn-Toye, Rita Ora, and John Kim in the sci-fi ensemble. The project, directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, begins production this December in Australia.

The movie is written by Thurber and Ellen Shanman, with producing duties handled by Todd Lieberman of Hidden Pictures, Bob Koplar of World Events Productions, Thurber, and David Hoberman of Hobie Films.

The live-action adaptation draws inspiration from the 1980s animated series Voltron: Defender of the Universe, itself a Westernized version of two Japanese anime series: Beast King GoLion and Kikou Kantai Dairugger XV. The story follows five pilots commanding robotic lions that combine to form Voltron, a massive mecha warrior. The team’s mission is to protect the galaxy from powerful threats.

Over the decades, Voltron has remained a fan-favorite franchise, with numerous reboots and an enduring legacy.

While plot details are under wraps, the film will introduce a new generation of pilots while maintaining key elements from the original series. With a strong cast and a director who understands the franchise’s history, the live-action Voltron aims to resonate with both longtime fans and newcomers.

The movie is poised to reinvigorate the classic mecha saga for modern audiences, blending nostalgia with contemporary storytelling.
