Director Victoria Mahoney Takes the Helm for NBC’s “Suits: LA” Pilot
NBC’s upcoming Suits offshoot, now titled “Suits: LA,” is gearing up for production with director Victoria Mahoney at the helm. The series, set in Los Angeles and featuring a fresh cast, promises to deliver the same legal drama that made the original Suits a hit. Production is scheduled to commence in late March in Vancouver.
The official logline from NBC introduces Ted Black, a former federal prosecutor from New York who reinvents himself by representing powerful clients in Los Angeles. Facing a crisis at his firm, Ted must embrace a role he once held in contempt. The narrative weaves together the personal and professional lives of a stellar group of characters, all while events from Ted’s past resurface, leading him to leave behind everything and everyone he loved.

Aaron Korsh, the original series creator, continues his involvement as an executive producer, joined by David Bartis, Doug Liman, and Gene Klein. Mahoney, known for her historic achievement as the first female and first Black director in the Star Wars franchise, brings her directorial expertise to the project. Her recent work on Netflix’s “The Old Guard 2” highlights her ability to deliver compelling narratives.
The spinoff is expected to maintain consistency with the original Suits series, set within the same timeframe, according to Beatrice Springborn, president of Universal International Studios and UCP. Fans can anticipate the same energy and appeal that made the original series popular, although it remains unclear if any original cast members will make appearances.
Mahoney’s impressive television portfolio includes directing episodes for various successful shows such as CBS’ “Red Line,” Netflix’s “You” and “Seven Seconds,” OWN’s “Queen Sugar,” ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy,” Starz’s “Power,” HBO’s “Lovecraft Country,” and Apple TV+’s “The Morning Show.”
As “Suits: LA” moves into production, the pilot episode aims to capture the essence of the Suits legacy while introducing a new chapter in the legal drama’s universe.
