"Superman: Legacy" Cast Expands with Edi Gathegi, Nathan Fillion, and Isabela Merced

James Gunn, the writer-director of “Superman: Legacy” and co-chief of DC Studios, is further shaping the new DC universe with the inclusion of three additional actors in the film’s cast. Joining the project are Edi Gathegi, known for his role in “X-Men: First Class,” Nathan Fillion from “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” and Isabela Merced, recognized for her work in “Dora and the Lost City of Gold.”

Gathegi will take on the character of Mister Terrific, while Fillion will portray Guy Gardner, one of the Green Lanterns, and Merced will embody Hawkgirl. These talented actors join the previously announced leads David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.

“Superman: Legacy” aims to explore the dual identity of Superman, balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. The film, directed by Gunn, seeks to capture the essence of Superman as the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, showcasing his kindness in a world that often underestimates its significance.

The inclusion of additional superheroes in “Superman: Legacy” suggests Gunn’s intention to establish a fully-formed DC cinematic universe, rather than introducing one superhero at a time.

Nathan Fillion has a history of collaboration with Gunn, having appeared in several of his films. In the film, Fillion will bring the character of Guy Gardner, a Green Lantern, to life. The upcoming Max streaming series, “Lanterns,” will further explore the stories of Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and John Stewart.

Isabela Merced, who rose to prominence through her work on Nickelodeon’s “100 Things to Do Before High School,” will play the role of Hawkgirl, a masked superheroine known for her affinity for medieval weaponry.

Edi Gathegi, recognized for his performance in “X-Men: First Class,” will portray Mister Terrific. The character, Michael Holt, is an ingenious inventor who fights crime using his multipurpose and mechanical “T-Spheres.”

The announcement of these cast additions arrives two years ahead of the scheduled debut of “Superman: Legacy” on July 11, 2025. It is worth noting that this news coincides with the impending expiration of the SAG-AFTRA contract, raising the possibility of an actors’ strike.

The casting choices for “Superman: Legacy” signal the continued progress of the film’s development. With the addition of Gathegi, Fillion, and Merced, along with Gunn’s creative direction, anticipation builds for the revitalization of the Superman franchise and the future of the DC cinematic universe.
