Survival of the Thickest Says ‘Ciao’ in Season 2—First Look Clip Takes Mavis to Italy

Mavis Beaumont is back—and this time, she’s serving looks and love abroad. Survival of the Thickest returns for season 2 on March 27, and Netflix just dropped a first-look clip of Michelle Buteau’s stylish, self-loving heroine strolling through Italy with a gelato in hand. That’s right, Mavis is officially in her European era, and we’re here for it.

The hit comedy, created by Buteau and Danielle Sanchez-Witzel (The Carmichael Show), made waves when it premiered in 2023, and now it’s back with even more love, mess, and plus-size fashion moments. Inspired by Buteau’s book of essays of the same name, the show follows Mavis, a New York stylist who rebuilt her life after a brutal breakup, all while championing body positivity and shaking up the fashion industry.

The first season left us on a high note, with Mavis shutting the door on her cheating ex and hopping on a plane to Italy for a shot at love with the charming Luca (Zotti). Season 2 picks up right where we left off—only this time, she’s taking her glow-up international.

Returning for season two are Survival of the Thickest stars Tone Bell (Trigger Warning, Coyote vs. Acme), Liza Treyger, Peppermint (Harlem), and Marouane Zotti (I May Destroy You, Bodkin). This season will be helmed by an all-female team of directors, including Kim Nguyen (Prom Dates, Never Have I Ever), Thembi Banks (Young. Wild. Free., Insecure), Amy Aniobi (Insecure, 2 Dope Queens), and Smith herself. Aniobi will also serve as co-showrunner and executive producer alongside The Carmichael Show and New Girl alum Danielle Sanchez-Witzel.

The show will also welcome an exciting slate of guest stars, including Anderson .Paak, Tika Sumpter, Jonathan Chad Higginbotham, Deon Cole, Alecsys Proctor-Turner, Jerrie Johnson, Celisse, Rolonda Watts, Michael Rishawn, Monét X Change, and RonReaco Lee.
