Teyana Taylor’s feature directorial debut Get Lite has shifted from its original April 9, 2027 release date to August 20, 2027, after Paramount reshuffled its theatrical calendar to accommodate a new acquisition.
The studio moved Get Lite to make room for Boys for Life, a new R-rated comedy acquired by Paramount’s genre label Paramount Primal following a competitive bidding war. Boys for Life is directed, produced and co-written by Tyler Falbo alongside Max Barrett, with production already underway for the original April 9 date.
Get Lite stars Storm Reid as a talented but sheltered dance student who finds inspiration, romance and a sense of family in New York City’s subway dance scene. Taylor produces alongside Kenya Barris, Anni Weisband, Reid and Robyn Simpson. The late summer window is seen as a natural fit for the dance film’s spirit, according to the studio.
Paramount Primal, spearheaded by J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules, is the studio’s new genre label dedicated to smartly budgeted titles across horror, comedy, action and science fiction. In addition to Boys for Life, the label recently announced it has secured the rights to the original Nightmare on Elm Street screenplay from the Wes Craven estate, with a remake now in development.
Get Lite opens in theaters August 20, 2027.
