Teyana Taylor’s feature directorial debut Get Lite, starring Storm Reid, has shifted from its original April 9, 2027 release date to August 20, 2027. Paramount gave the original date to new acquisition Boys for Life, clearing the way for a late summer debut. And with production now moving forward, the film is holding open call auditions for dancers.
Taylor took to social media to personally call out all five boroughs ahead of the audition. “This one is for the culture,” she wrote. “I’m looking for the BEST Lite Feet dancers, Lite Feet crews, New York street-style dancers, tumblers, acrobats and performers with specialty tricks. Bring your energy! Bring your style! REPRESENT NEW YORK!”
The open call is taking place Friday, July 24 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Harlem, New York. The production is seeking Lite Feet dancers and crews, New York street style dancers, performers with specialty tricks and those with tumbling and acrobatic experience. Get Lite stars Storm Reid as a talented but sheltered dance student who finds inspiration, romance and a sense of family in New York City’s subway dance scene. Taylor produces alongside Kenya Barris, Anni Weisband, Reid and Robyn Simpson.
The date shift came after Paramount’s new genre label Paramount Primal acquired Boys for Life, a new R-rated comedy that came in through a competitive bidding war and was handed the April 9 slot. The studio also noted that the dance film’s spirit lends itself better to a summer release window, so consider it a blessing in disguise.
Get Lite opens in theaters August 20, 2027.
