8 years after The Accountant was released, Ben Affleck is officially returning as the enigmatic Christian Wolff in ‘The Accountant 2.’ Amazon MGM Studios has announced that the sequel will hit theaters on April 25, 2025.
Joining Affleck in the cast are Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Jon Bernthal, and J.K. Simmons, reprising their roles from the first film. Newcomers to the franchise include Daniella Pineda, Allison Robertson, Robert Morgan, and Grant Harvey.

The Accountant 2 follows Treasury Agent Marybeth Medina (Addai-Robinson) as she enlists the help of Christian Wolff (Affleck) to solve the murder of her former boss. With the assistance of his lethal brother, Brax (Bernthal), Wolff uses his unique skills to unravel a complex mystery. As the trio gets closer to the truth, they find themselves in the crosshairs of deadly adversaries.
Directed by Gavin O’Connor and starring Affleck, the film is a reunion of the original creative team. The screenplay, once again, is penned by Bill Dubuque.
The Accountant 2 will be the sole studio release on its release date, positioning it for a potential box office win before Marvel Studios kicks off the summer with Thunderbolts. The April release frame has proven to be a lucrative one for Amazon MGM, with this year’s Challengers grossing over $94 million worldwide.
The original Accountant was a surprise hit, grossing $155 million worldwide and becoming the most-rented digital film of 2017. The film’s enduring popularity, evidenced by its recent top spot on Netflix’s Global Top 10 Movies chart, suggests strong potential for the sequel.
Affleck and Matt Damon’s production company, Artists Equity, is producing the film alongside 51 Entertainment.
With a strong cast, a proven director, and a lucrative release date, The Accountant 2 is shaping up to be a major contender in the 2025 box office race.
One notable omission from the sequel is Anna Kendrick, who starred in the first film. While there’s no official reason given for her absence, the actress is currently busy with the highly anticipated sequel to A Simple Favor.
