“The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen” Wraps Filming in South Africa

Disney’s next chapter in the “Cheetah Girls” franchise has finished production, following its announcement in July.

“The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen” officially wrapped filming on September 5, 2026, Disney Channel confirmed, capping a production that kicked off in South Africa in July. The film is slated to arrive on Disney Channel and Disney+ sometime in 2027.

The sequel brings back Raven-Symoné as Galleria and Adrienne Bailon-Houghton as Chanel, with Sabrina Bryan making a special appearance as Dorinda. Lynn Whitfield and Lori Alter also return, reprising their roles as Dorothea and Juanita. Leading the new generation are Leah Sava’ Jeffries (“Percy Jackson and the Olympians”) as Galleria’s daughter Faith, Carmen Sanchez (“Electric Bloom”) as Chanel’s sister Dior, Kaileen Chang as Ruby, and Sophie Lennon as Brooklyn. South African actor Kamogelo Ramashala, discovered through a global open casting call, joins as Kendi, with Sophia Bush rounding out the cast in a supporting role as Jennifré.

The story follows Galleria and Chanel as they travel to Africa with Faith and her three friends to volunteer at a wildlife sanctuary, where the girls navigate friendship, self-discovery, and ultimately step onto the stage as a new generation of Cheetah Girls.

Bille Woodruff directs from a script by Kara Holden, Sarah Watson, and Deborah Swisher, with choreography by Kyle Hanagami. Raven-Symoné executive produces alongside original trilogy producer Debra Martin Chase, with Bailon-Houghton serving as co-producer.

The original “The Cheetah Girls” was the highest-rated movie on broadcast or cable in 2003 and spawned two sequels along with a hit soundtrack, helping launch an era of Disney Channel original musicals that later included “High School Musical,” “Camp Rock,” and “Descendants.” All three original films are currently streaming on Disney+.

A specific premiere date for “The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen” has not yet been announced.
