The Family Business: New Orleans is set to bring a fresh chapter to the Duncan saga, and BET+ has just unveiled the first trailer for the highly anticipated spinoff of Carl Weber’s crime drama series The Family Business. The new series will premiere on January 23, 2025, with a double-episode debut and then one episode will drop weekly, leading up to the finale on Thursday, March 6.
Building on the world established in the original series, the spinoff centers on Midnight Blues, a legendary underground casino and jazz club nestled between Old Town New Orleans and the elite Parrish of Gator Lake. This iconic establishment, owned by Big Shirley Duncan (Lela Rochon), her younger brother Floyd (Pooch Hall), and her son Marquis (Brandon T. Jackson), has been a hub of culture and power for over a century. However, the Duncans’ control is threatened when a rising underworld figure, Jean LeBlanc (David Banner), challenges their territory after his brother’s mysterious death at Midnight Blues. To protect their legacy, Shirley sends Marquis to New York to enlist help from the original Duncan family.
The stakes intensify as Marquis bypasses Houston and heads straight to New York, where he seeks the aid of Vegas Duncan (Michael Jai White) and other family members. In response, family enforcers Curtis Duncan (Ben Stephens) and assassin Lauren Duncan (Nayirah Teshali) are dispatched to New Orleans, bringing the full weight of the Duncan empire into the conflict.
The spinoff boasts an ensemble cast, including Quincy Brown, Yvette Nicole Brown, Orlando Jones, Nicole Galicia, Erica Hubbard, Sarah Carter, Stan Shaw, Bern Nadette Stanis, Sacaiah Shaw, Jenson Atwood, AzMarie Livingston, Deric Augustine, Kayla Nicole, and Nicholas Turturro.
The spinoff also highlights a strong behind-the-scenes team, with showrunner Nikaya D. Brown Jones and executive producers Carl Weber and Trey Haley ensuring the series stays true to its roots. Haley is also the lead director of the show with Veronica Nichols on-board to direct an episode. Produced by Tri Destined Studios and Urban Books Media, the show promises to deliver the same high-intensity drama and layered storytelling fans of The Family Business have come to expect.
Additionally, Lela Rochon and Brandon T. Jackson are stepping into the roles of Associate Producers for the spinoff, further shaping its vision.
The original series introduced viewers to the Duncan family, who live dual lives as luxury car dealers by day and power players in the criminal underworld by night. Notably, several cast members, including Ben Stephens, Bern Nadette Stanis, Stan Shaw, Nayirah Teshali, and Sacaiah Shaw, previously made guest appearances in season four of the original series.
Mark your calendars for January 23, 2025, as The Family Business: New Orleans delivers a new dimension to Carl Weber’s crime drama universe, blending the allure and mystique of New Orleans with the intense, high-stakes world of the Duncan family.
