A new coming-of-age drama led by rising star Chase Infiniti is headed to one of the year’s biggest film festivals.
The Julia Set, written and directed by Niki Byrne, will make its world premiere at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) as part of the festival’s first wave of announced titles.
The film stars Chase Infiniti as Julia, a gifted young mathematician navigating the intensely competitive world of academia. Her journey takes a dramatic turn when Pascal (Christopher Briney), a teaching assistant, recruits her into an elite training program for the notoriously difficult Putnam Mathematics Competition, setting the stage for a story about ambition, intellect and the pressures of chasing excellence.
Alongside Infiniti and Briney, The Julia Set boasts an impressive ensemble that includes Gillian Anderson, Jason Isaacs, Nina Hoss, Chlöe Bailey, Carmen Ejogo, Nico Hiraga, Liz Lin, and Alex Dillard.
Production on the film took place in London beginning in October 2025. Byrne both wrote and directed the feature, with producers Jeffrey Penman, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Lee Stollman, Gillian Anderson, Nick Scherma, Tayler Haynes, Andrey Epifanov and Eleonora Granata-Jenkinson. The project is produced by Potato Salad Cosmic Domination in association with The Gotham Group, If/Then, G Nus Media, Cinetrain and Melegrano.
The film’s title references the Julia set, a mathematical concept known for generating intricate fractal patterns through repeated equations. While the film isn’t about the mathematical theory itself, the title appears to mirror Julia’s own journey through an increasingly complex and demanding academic landscape.
For Chase Infiniti, The Julia Set marks another major step in what continues to be a breakout run, while Chlöe Bailey and Carmen Ejogo add even more star power to one of TIFF’s most anticipated world premieres.
The 2026 Toronto International Film Festival runs this September.
