Netflix has just unveiled the first look images for The Old Guard 2, set to release on July 2, 2025, five years after the original film became a global hit. The sequel promises to take the action, stakes, and emotional depth even further as Charlize Theron’s Andy and her immortal mercenary team face a new, formidable threat.

Theron, who returns as the fearless leader, teased what fans can expect from the sequel, saying to TUDUM.com, “There’s something for everyone in this movie: Fans who loved the first film, fans who love the original graphic novels — and brand-new fans who are looking for insane action, grounded and relatable characters, gorgeous locations, and a global cast of superstars.”

A New Chapter in the Immortal Saga

In The Old Guard 2, Andy and her team are back on their mission to protect humanity, but with greater challenges. Booker (Matthias Schoenaerts), still in exile after his betrayal, is forced to contend with the return of Quynh (Veronica Ngô), who has a vendetta of her own. Andy grapples with the complexities of mortality while facing a new threat that jeopardizes everything she’s fought for over the centuries.

Key returning cast members include KiKi Layne as Nile, Marwan Kenzari as Joe, Luca Marinelli as Nicky, and Chiwetel Ejiofor as James Copley. Joining the franchise this time are Uma Thurman and Henry Golding in undisclosed roles, sparking excitement about the fresh faces in the sequel.

Action-Packed Sequel with High Stakes

A recently released behind-the-scenes featurette offers fans a sneak peek at the action sequences, including an intense helicopter shootout, indicating the scale of action in the sequel will be bigger than ever. Directed by Victoria Mahoney (Lovecraft Country, The Morning Show), The Old Guard 2 promises an emotional rollercoaster along with jaw-dropping action, blending both character-driven moments and adrenaline-pumping sequences.

Expanding on the Original

The sequel is based on the second installment of Greg Rucka’s graphic novel series, Force Multiplied. Rucka returns as co-writer alongside Sarah L. Walker, bringing a fresh perspective to the team’s continuing journey as they wrestle with the weight of immortality, loyalty, and new betrayals. The production faced some delays, but with reshoots completed in late 2023, The Old Guard 2 is officially set to release in 2025.
