Cliff “Method Man” Smith and Kyra Sedgwick lead the chaos in Bad Shabbos, the award-winning ensemble comedy that took home the Audience Award at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival—and now, the official trailer is here.
From director Daniel Robbins (Citizen Weiner), Bad Shabbos follows David (Jon Bass) and his fiancée Meg (Meghan Leathers) as they prepare for a seemingly wholesome Shabbat dinner on New York’s Upper West Side. The plan? Have their parents meet for the first time. The reality? A possible murder, rising tensions, and two colliding families—one Jewish, one Catholic—on the brink of disaster.
Method Man plays a quick-witted doorman and longtime family friend, dropping one-liners and stirring the pot as dinner spins into a full-blown biblical mess. Sedgwick plays David’s overbearing but lovable mother, anchoring a cast that includes Milana Vayntrub, David Paymer, Ashley Zukerman, Catherine Curtin, John Bedford Lloyd, and more.
Bad Shabbos puts a fresh, irreverent twist on interfaith relationships, family dynamics, and what it means to keep the peace when everything—and everyone—is falling apart.
Menemsha Films will release the film in NYC on May 23, followed by a wider rollout in LA, the NY metro area, and more cities on June 6.
Early festival screenings sparked nonstop laughter, with Menemsha’s Neil Friedman calling the film “a one-of-a-kind motion picture” that “cannot come at a better time for audiences nationwide.”
Watch the trailer below and prepare for a comedy of biblical proportions.
