Roslyn Gentle, Kylie Minogue, Jane Curtin, Eliza Coupe, Julieth Restrepo, Sumalee Montano, James Babson, Izzy Diaz, and Paul Fitzgerald have all been cast to star in the upcoming Netflix series “The Residence” from Shondaland duo Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers.
Uzo Aduba leads the series that also stars previously cast Susan Kelechi Watson, Andre Braugher, Edwina Findley, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Ken Marino, Jason Lee, Bronson Pinchot, Molly Griggs, Al Mitchell, Dan Perreault, and Mary Wiseman.
Set in the White House, ‘The Residence’ is based on the book “The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House”. Chris Grace, Juliette Jeffers, Nathan Lovejoy, E. L. Losada, Mel Rodriguez, Brett Tucker, and Rebecca Field round out the cast.
Here’s the official logline for The Residence, per Netflix: “132 rooms. 157 suspects. One dead body. One wildly eccentric detective (Aduba). One disastrous State Dinner. The Residence is a screwball whodunnit set in the upstairs, downstairs and backstairs of the White House, among the eclectic staff of the world’s most famous mansion.”
The murder-mystery show will be eight episodes long and is produced by Shondaland and Paul William Davies.
Aduba will play Cordelia Cupp, a detective for the Metropolitan Police Department who is an astute observer of human behavior. Watson portrays Jasmine Haney, a young and rising White House Assistant Usher and Braugher plays White House Chief Usher. A.B. Wynter.
Findley portrays Sheila Cannon, White House Butler and Whitlock Jr. portrays Larry Dokes, Chief of Police, Metropolitan Police Department. Lee joins as Tripp Morgan, President Perry Morgan’s younger brother and a bit of a screw-up. Marino plays Harry Hollinger, President Perry Morgan’s oldest friend, closest advisor, and most trusted confidante.

Griggs plays Lilly Schumacher, President Morgan’s Social Secretary. Mitchell portrays Rollie Bridgewater, Head Butler/Maitre d’. Perrault plays Colin Trask, Head of the Presidential Detail for the Secret Service and lastly, Pinchot is Didier Gotthard, White House Executive Pastry Chef.
Paul William Davies, who previously teamed with Shondaland on ABC’s Scandal and For the People, serves as showrunner and exec produces alongside Rhimes and Beers. The eight-episode series stems from Shondaland’s overall deal with Netflix as well as Davies’ pact with the streamer.
