Tommy Davidson and Lamorne Morris Join Cast of New CBS Comedy ‘Poppa’s House’

CBS’s new comedy Poppa’s House is making its debut season more of a reunion with guest appearances from Tommy Davidson and Lamorne Morris. The series, which stars the iconic father-son duo Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr., is set to premiere on Monday, October 21 at 8:30 p.m. ET.

Produced by CBS Studios, Poppa’s House follows the life of a legendary talk radio host, affectionately known as Poppa, whose life takes a comedic turn as he navigates both his professional world and his home life. The official show logline describes Poppa as a “happily divorced” father whose beliefs are challenged by both a new, dynamic female co-host (Essence Atkins) and his adult son, who is struggling to balance his creative passions with his responsibilities as a husband and father.

In a February episode, Morris and Davidson will make special appearances. Morris, best known for his role alongside Wayans Jr. in New Girl, will play Todd, a film school buddy who encourages Wayans Jr.’s character to return to the world of filmmaking. Davidson, who previously worked with Damon Wayans on the groundbreaking sketch show In Living Color, will portray Jarnold, a long-time acquaintance of Poppa (Wayans) who shares a playful rapport with him during elevator rides at work.

The addition of Davidson and Morris the show also stars series regular Tetona Jackson as Nina, Wayans Jr.’s on-screen wife and Wendy Raquel Robinson in a recurring role as Poppa’s ex-wife and mother to Wayans Jr.’s character.

A teaser for Poppa’s House was released by CBS in May, offering a glimpse into the family-focused humor of the series. In one scene, Wayans Jr. humorously asks, “Is it just me, or does it feel like one big family?” to which his father responds, “That’s definitely on brand for us,” capturing the essence of the show’s light-hearted exploration of family dynamics.

Behind the scenes, the series boasts impressive talent. Kevin Hench serves as executive producer and co-writer of the pilot alongside Wayans. Directed by Andy Ackerman, the series promises fast-paced humor and sharp dialogue. Kameron Tarlow, through Wayans Jr.’s Two Shakes Entertainment, also produces the show.

Both guest stars come with notable credentials. Morris, who recently won an Emmy for his role in Fargo, is set to star in Amazon’s Spider-Noir and is represented by CAA and Entertainment 360. Davidson, whose recent credits include The Ms. Pat Show and A Black Lady Sketch Show, is repped by Innovative Artists.

As anticipation builds for the premiere of Poppa’s House, fans can look forward to a fresh blend of humor, heart, and familiar faces, making it a must-watch this fall.
