As anticipation continues to build following her historic achievements at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Netflix has released the trailer for Part 2 of its docuseries Simone Biles: Rising. The highly-anticipated second installment, which premieres on October 25, will showcase Biles’ extraordinary journey to becoming the most decorated gymnast in history.
The trailer opens with Biles reflecting on her challenging road to Paris, admitting, “With everything that I’ve done and been through, I do feel that it gives me more confidence, but since I am older, I am a little bit more afraid.” She also speaks candidly about the pressure and emotional toll of competing in an Olympic year.
The Simone Biles: Rising docuseries initially followed Biles’ comeback after she famously withdrew from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics to prioritize her mental health. After taking time to rebuild her confidence and skills, Biles returned stronger than ever. Part 2 of the series captures her intense preparations for the 2024 U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Trials and her eventual qualification for the U.S. Olympic Team. Watch trailer below.
According to Netflix’s official description, this chapter of the series chronicles Biles’ remarkable performances in Paris, where she secured three gold medals and one silver. The episodes offer an intimate look into her personal and athletic journey, documenting her road to becoming the most decorated gymnast in Olympic history.
Produced by Religion of Sports in collaboration with the Olympic Channel, the four-episode series provides behind-the-scenes access to Biles’ highs and lows, including a key moment that left gymnastics fans on edge: during warm-ups for the team final in Paris, Biles limped off the floor with what appeared to be a calf injury. The trailer shows a tense moment as Biles tells her coach, “My calf or something just pulled all the way,” hinting at the possibility of her Olympic comeback being cut short once again.
Despite this setback, Biles powered through the competition, winning gold in the team, all-around, and vault finals, and taking home silver in the floor event. The trailer also features reflections from her former Olympic teammate Aly Raisman, who recalls asking Biles how she managed to perform despite the pain. Biles’ response was simple yet telling: “I couldn’t have people tell me I was a quitter again.”
The docuseries also highlights Biles’ experience as an older athlete in gymnastics, acknowledging the physical challenges she faces at 27, an age at which many gymnasts have long since retired. “Since I’m older, my body is like a ticking time bomb,” Biles admits in the trailer, underscoring her determination despite the odds.
Viewers can expect glimpses of Biles’ support system, including appearances by her husband, Jonathan Owens, and her mother, Nellie Biles, as well as behind-the-scenes footage of Team USA at the Olympics. Part 2 will continue to tell the inspirational story of Biles’ perseverance, talent, and indomitable spirit.
Simone Biles: Rising Part 2 begins streaming on Netflix on October 25. Fans can tune in to see how Biles defied the odds and solidified her place as the greatest gymnast in history.
