Tiffany Haddish is heading to Mississippi. Samuel Goldwyn Films has acquired The Girl in the River and will release the thriller in theaters and on digital platforms September 4.
Written and directed by Brando Benetton, the film follows an experienced criminologist and a young psychologist who travel to a small Mississippi town after a girl is murdered and her twin sister goes missing. Haddish leads the cast alongside Maggie Grace, Devon Sawa and Ralph Macchio.
The trailer sets the stakes quickly. “Their father, his political authority is absolute,” Haddish says. “We’ve already found the body. If we don’t find her sister in the next 24 hours, she won’t be back at all.” The footage closes with a warning from Haddish’s character that leaves little room for doubt about what they are up against. “You’re not ready to confront what real evil looks like.”
Joe Lemmon and Andrew Stevens produce, with executive producers including Hicham Benkirane, Alan B. Bursteen, Dawn Bursteen, Rick Moore, Alessandro Penazzi, Jeff Roschman and Sam Stevens.
