Netflix has dropped the trailer for Tyler Perry’s Doing Life, arriving on the streamer October 2.
The film follows Anika (Naomi Baker), a former prison officer, and Carousel (Jay Reeves), a reformed ex-convict she once crossed paths with during a violent prison riot. When the two reconnect after his release, an unlikely bond forms, complicated by the hesitations of Anika’s family and the weight of both of their pasts.
The ensemble cast includes Tamberla Perry (Brilliant Minds, They Cloned Tyrone), Karen Obilom (Games People Play), Jasmine Sargent (Dynasty), Danielle Mone Truitt (Law and Order: Organized Crime) and Lucky Johnson.
Perry wrote, directed and produced the film alongside Angi Bones and Tony L. Strickland for Tyler Perry Studios.
Doing Life is the latest in Perry’s growing partnership with Netflix, which includes A Fall from Grace, A Jazzman’s Blues, Mea Culpa, The Six Triple Eight and Straw, among others. It arrives just weeks after another major Perry release on the streamer, Why Did I Get Married Again?, the long-awaited sequel reuniting the original cast including Perry, Taraji P. Henson, Jill Scott, Richard T. Jones, Tasha Smith, Michael Jai White, Lamman Rucker and Sharon Leal, premiering September 9.
Tyler Perry’s Doing Life premieres October 2 on Netflix.
