Tyler Perry Teases Potential Third Installment to ‘Why Did I Get Married?’ Series

Tyler Perry has seemingly confirmed the long-awaited third installment of his beloved franchise Why Did I Get Married?, teasing fans with a glimpse of a script for Why Did I Get Married Again?. In a recent post on social media, Perry shared an image of his computer screen, displaying what appears to be the first page of the new script, reigniting excitement among fans of the original films.

The Why Did I Get Married? series, which debuted in 2007, explores the relationships of four couples navigating their marriages while on a retreat. Starring an ensemble cast that includes Janet Jackson, Jill Scott, Tasha Smith, Sharon Leal, Perry himself, Richard T. Jones, Malik Yoba, and Michael Jai White, the film became an instant hit, grossing over $55 million at the box office. Its success led to the 2010 sequel Why Did I Get Married Too?, which continued the couples’ journeys and brought in an additional $60 million, pushing the franchise’s combined earnings to over $115 million.

In recent weeks, fans have been vocal about wanting a third film, with a series of playful social media posts from cast members fueling speculation. It all started when Richard T. Jones, who played the controversial character Mike, posted a humorous video on October 18, referencing a scene from the first movie where Mike forces his wife Sheila, portrayed by Jill Scott, to drive alone to their couples’ retreat. Jones’ post quickly went viral, drawing responses from Scott, Tasha Smith, Michael Jai White, and Sharon Leal, all slipping back into their roles to add to the fun.

While Janet Jackson, currently on her “Together Again” tour, and Malik Yoba, whose character Gavin died in the second film, have been absent from the social media exchanges, the rest of the cast’s playful interactions have only heightened fan anticipation for another chapter in the series.

Perry has been riding high on a wave of recent successes. His latest project, Divorce in the Black, a relationship drama-thriller starring Meagan Good and Cory Hardrict, received critical acclaim, and he has two more highly anticipated projects on the horizon. His new Netflix series Beauty in Black will debut on October 24, followed by The Six Triple Eight, a World War II period drama set to release on December 20.

If Why Did I Get Married Again? moves forward, it would mark another major milestone in Perry’s illustrious career, as he continues to deliver stories that resonate with audiences and celebrate Black love, relationships, and resilience. Fans will have to stay tuned for more updates, but for now, it seems Perry is ready to reunite the cast for one more go-round.
