According to Nielsen, ‘Divorce in the Black’ amassed an impressive 498 million minutes watched in its first four days of availability on Amazon Prime Video. Moreover, Amazon said the soapy drama has outperformed any previous Amazon MGM Studios-produced movie in terms of new sign-ups to Prime Video in the U.S. to-date.
The film’s popularity is further evidenced by its strong showing on Nielsen’s Top 10 streaming chart, where it debuted at number three for the week of July 8-14. This translates to an estimated 3.5 million views on its premiere day, July 11.
Luminate’s movies chart also reflects the film’s enduring appeal, with ‘Divorce in the Black’ accumulating 93.2 million minutes watched in its third week on Prime Video.
Centered around the tumultuous marriage of Ava (Meagan Good), a young bank professional, the film explores themes of betrayal and resilience. When her husband, Dallas (Cory Hardrict), unexpectedly files for divorce, Ava is initially heartbroken but ultimately discovers her husband’s dark secrets that have shattered their relationship.
Directed and written by Tyler Perry, ‘Divorce in the Black’ is part of his four-picture pact with Amazon Studios. The film also stars Taylor Polidore, Shannon Wallace, Joseph Lee Anderson, Richard Lawson, and Debbi Morgan.
