‘UnPrisoned’ Canceled After Two Seasons, Kerry Washington Confirms

The second season of “UnPrisoned” is set to premiere on Hulu with all eight episodes dropping on Wednesday, July 17. The series, which follows the tumultuous lives of the Alexander family, promises to delve deeper into their complicated dynamics and introduce new characters that will challenge their relationships further.

In the latest trailer, viewers get a glimpse of the Alexander family’s ongoing struggles. Paige, a therapist with a faltering practice, is overwhelmed by her son Finn’s severe anxiety and her father Edwin’s attempts to rebuild his life post-incarceration. As their issues escalate, the family turns to an unconventional solution – a “family radical healing coach.”

The new season will feature John Stamos in the recurring role of Murphy, a charismatic author and self-proclaimed family coach. Murphy’s unorthodox methods and candid approach aim to help the Alexanders confront and heal from their deep-seated issues and secrets. His arrival promises to shake things up, offering a fresh perspective to the beleaguered family.

The cast sees Kerry Washington return as Paige, alongside Delroy Lindo as Edwin, Faly Rakotohavana as Finn, and Marque Richardson as Mal. New additions include guest stars Oliver Hudson, Jamie Chung, Brenda Strong, and Brandee Evans, who will add further complexity to the storylines.

“UnPrisoned,” inspired by creator Tracy McMillan’s life, portrays Paige Alexander’s journey as she navigates her roles as a therapist, social media influencer, and single mom. Her world is turned upside down when her father, Edwin, is released from prison and moves in with her and her teenage son. This dynamic sets the stage for a series filled with humor, drama, and heartfelt moments.

At the heart of the series is the relationship between Paige and Edwin. Season 2 will explore the lingering impact of Edwin’s absence and the challenges of reestablishing a father-daughter bond. Meanwhile, Paige’s personal life takes unexpected turns, including her attempts to re-enter the dating scene after a brief romance with her father’s case worker, Mal.

Executive producers for the series include Tracy McMillan, Yvette Lee Bowser, Kerry Washington, Pilar Savone, Delroy Lindo, Joy Gorman Wettels, and Jen Braeden. Produced by Onyx Collective on Hulu and ABC Signature, “UnPrisoned” continues to be praised for its insightful and engaging portrayal of modern family dynamics.
