Jason George is set to rejoin the cast of Grey’s Anatomy as a series regular for its upcoming 21st season. Known for his role as Ben Warren, George has been a part of the show since Season 6 and previously transitioned to the spinoff series Station 19.
George served as a series regular on Grey’s Anatomy from Season 12 through Season 14 before moving to Station 19. Over the past seven seasons, he balanced his role on the firefighter drama with guest appearances on Grey’s Anatomy. Both series are produced by Shondaland and ABC Signature.

The return of George to Grey’s Anatomy comes as the show prepares to say goodbye to two current series regulars, Jake Borelli and Midori Francis.
Borelli portrayed Levi Schmitt and will be departing ABC‘s Grey’s Anatomy after seven years on the show, including being a series regular for the past five seasons. Francis, who has played Mika Yasuda on Grey’s Anatomy for the last two seasons, is departing the medical drama as a series regular.
According to sources, Francis and Borelli are in negotiations to return next season for several episodes to wrap up the story of their characters.
Ben Warren’s storyline on Station 19 in its seventh season focused on his increasing reliance on his medical skills and questioning his future as a firefighter due to a shoulder injury. This narrative culminated in the series finale, where Ben announced his intention to resume his surgical residency at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. His personal connection to the hospital is reinforced by his marriage to Miranda Bailey, a central character portrayed by Chandra Wilson.
George’s history with Shondaland extends beyond Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19. He was also a series regular on Off The Map, another Shondaland medical drama that aired in 2011. Outside of his acting career, George is active with the SAG-AFTRA Foundation and is represented by Independent Artist Group and Yorn, Levine, Barnes.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, George discussed the end of Station 19. He expressed mixed feelings about the conclusion of the series, acknowledging the sadness of its unexpected end but appreciating the opportunity to create a fitting finale. “It’s incredibly tough because it feels like we have so many more years in us,” George said. He added, “Knowing that this was our last season, the writers got to write an ending that landed that plane the way it was supposed to land.”
While fans of Grey’s Anatomy look forward to Ben Warren’s return, the possibility of other Station 19 characters, such as Stefania Spampinato’s Carina DeLuca, appearing on the show remains uncertain. Spampinato, another alum of Grey’s Anatomy, has not been confirmed to return, although guest appearances are always a possibility.
George’s commitment to environmental causes was also highlighted recently at the Schmidt Ocean Institute’s Waves of Change event in Santa Monica. George, who grew up in Virginia Beach and whose father was a Navy member, has long been attentive to environmental issues. At the event, he participated in a spoken-word performance, underscoring his dedication to environmental advocacy.
As Grey’s Anatomy prepares for its 21st season, the return of Jason George as Ben Warren promises to bring continuity and new storylines to the enduring medical drama.
