Lifetime Unveils Teaser For ‘Voices of a Lifetime’ Film Series Featuring Mary J. Blige, Lisa Lisa, and Gloria Gaynor

Lifetime is set to celebrate the stories of some of music’s most iconic figures with its upcoming Voices of a Lifetime series. The network, which dropped the teaser for the project includes films inspired by the lives and legacies of Mary J. Blige, Lisa Lisa, and Gloria Gaynor, each offering a unique perspective on their impact on the music industry.

The series begins on Jan. 25 with Family Affair, Mary J. Blige’s third Lifetime project inspired by her music. Following the success of Real Love and Strength of a Woman, this film continues the story of Kendra and Ben, played by returning stars Ajiona Alexus and Da’Vinchi.

The official synopsis teases escalating family tensions as Kendra and Ben navigate fertility struggles, family dynamics, and personal sacrifices. As challenges arise, the couple must find a way to preserve their love. Family Affair is directed by Troy Scott with a script by Rachel Ingram. Blige serves as an executive producer under her Blue Butterfly banner.

On Feb. 1, Lifetime will premiere Can You Feel the Beat: The Lisa Lisa Story, a biopic that chronicles Lisa Velez’s rise to stardom as part of Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam. Starring Jearnest Corchado as Velez, the film highlights her groundbreaking contributions to Latinx representation in mainstream music.

Set in New York’s Hell’s Kitchen, the story captures Velez’s determination to overcome sexism and racism in the music industry, ultimately paving the way for future icons like Selena and Jennifer Lopez. Directed by Tailiah Breon with a script by Rebecca Murga, the film features Velez herself as an executive producer, adding authenticity to the narrative.

Closing the series on Feb. 8 is I Will Survive: The Gloria Gaynor Story, starring Tony Award winner Joaquina Kalukango as Gaynor and Lance Gross as her husband, Linwood Simon. Produced by Robin Roberts’ Rock’n Robin Productions, the biopic explores Gaynor’s five-decade career, from her disco dominance to personal trials.

The film, which features Gaynor’s timeless anthem “I Will Survive,” delves into the challenges she faced, including a tumultuous marriage. The story showcases her resilience and faith as driving forces behind her success. The project also includes a documentary, Gloria Gaynor: I Will Survive, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and will air alongside the biopic.
